The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (IKV), Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen is offering an alternative residency in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, Large Animals, from January 1st 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of four years.

Education and job content
The position is a 4-year position with focus on diagnostic imaging in horses and other larger animals. The residency will follow all the rules and training elements required and recommended by the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI-LA).

More specifically, the position will be structured as followed:

  • Minimum programme length 3 years, preferable 4 years.
  • Strong emphasis on diagnostic imaging duties with the majority of the programme spent participating in the diagnostic imaging clinical work at the University Hospital for Large Animals (UH-LA) in Taastrup.
  • The resident will spend at least 60% working time on diagnostic imaging.
  • The majority of the time will be spent at UH-LA but also at the Companion Animal Teaching Hospital at Frederiksberg as required by the ECVDI.
  • Participation in out of hour’s duties may be possible / requested for the successful candidate.
  • The clinical work involves training and teaching of veterinary students.
  • The resident work includes research and dissemination.
Qualifications
We look for an engaged and highly motivated, enthusiastic team player with genuine and documented interest in equine diagnostic imaging and equine medicine, surgery and orthopedics in general.

More specifically, the following professional and personal qualifications are required:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional degree (DVM).
  • Have or being able to obtain a Danish Veterinary Authorization.
  • Eligibility to register as a resident with the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.
  • Completed internship program of minimum 12 months duration or 2 years’ comparable clinical experience.
  • Experience from specialized equine practice or similar is an advantage.
  • Experience with research including publications within the field is considered an advantage.
  • Experience with and desire to teach veterinary students. Documented teaching experience at university level is an advantage.
  • Have a satisfactory moral and ethical standing in the profession and the community.
  • Good communication and cooperation skills.
  • Fluent in Danish or another Scandinavian language as well as in English, spoken and written.

The Large Animal Teaching Hospital and Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences af University of Copenhagen
The UH-LA has a large and diverse equine and farm animal caseload specifically within the areas of equine lameness, surgery, medicine, and cardiology.

The UH-LA is a well-equipped large animal hospital including ceiling mounted DR xray, several high-level ultrasound machines dedicated for various purposes, scintigraphy and several surgical theatres with fluoroscopy. During the fall of 2023 we will finalize installation of a state-of-the-art Canon large bore CT scanner on the Qalibra platform.

In addition to the specialized imaging team including two ECVDI Diplomates and several radiographers, we are two Diplomates in large animal surgery (ECVS), two Diplomates in equine medicine (ECEIM) and an ISELP certified lameness clinician.

We can offer a great working environment with a dedicated staff working evidence based and keen on discussing cases and developing all aspects of our diagnostic services for the benefit of our patients, clients, students, and staff.

All our activities with teaching of students as well as a very diverse range of pre-clinical, translational, and clinical research portfolio in orthopaedics, abdominal disease, upper respiratory disease and cardiology in horses and humans are deeply integrated.

Terms of employment
The position is full timed, limited to 4 years in duration, and employment ceases without notice at the end of the fourth year. Employment will be in accordance with The Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and Akademikerne (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
