The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, invites motivated applications for a full-time veterinary position within large animal surgery from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2028.

Job description
The position is a 5-year position with focus on large animal surgery. For the right candidate the position will encompass a Standard Veterinary Surgery Training Programme (residency) in the European College of Veterinary Surgery (ECVS), and the candidate will be assigned to a supervising ECVS diplomate. The tasks in the training position will thus follow all the rules and training elements required and recommended by the ECVS training brochure (https://www.ecvs.org/membership/).

- The veterinarian will spend at least 60% working time in the large animal surgical clinic.
- The majority of the time will be spent at the department, but external rotations outside (in Denmark or abroad) may be requested for the successful candidate.
- Participation in out of hour’s duties are requested for the successful candidate.
- A small well defined research project should be conducted to fulfil the requirement of the ECVS
- The position involves training of veterinary students, research tasks, and dissemination
- The candidate is expected to apply for external funding to cover costs related to external activities such as conferences and rotations

The section for Large Animal Medicine and Surgery collaborates with, holds clinical teaching and service obligations within large animal anesthesia and analgesia, pre-clinical, general and specialized surgery, general and internal medicine, and collaborates across fields nationally and internationally. The section collaborates widely within and across to other sections.

Qualifications:
We look for an engaged, dedicated, and highly motivated, enthusiastic team player with interest in large animal surgery.

More specifically, the following professional and personal qualifications are required:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional degree (DVM).
• Have or being able to obtain a Danish veterinary authorization.
• Eligibility to register as a resident with the European College of Veterinary Surgery (more information can be found here: https://www.ecvs.org/membership/).
• Completed internship program of minimum 12 months duration or 2 years’ comparable clinical experience more information can be found here: https://www.ecvs.org/services/document_library.php?id=45AA3E0614DE4E5A&name=How+to+become+a+Specialist).
• Experience from specialized equine clinical practice, particularly at a referral hospital or similar is an advantage.
• Experience with research, preferable within the field of large animal surgery, is an advantage.
• Fluency in Danish or another Scandinavian language as well as in English, spoken and written, is an advantage.
• Documented teaching experience at university level is an advantage.
• A satisfactory moral and ethical standing in the profession and the community.
• High degree of motivation, self-initiative, and teamwork.
• Ability to juggle several tasks concurrently, excellent planning skills.
• Independence in relation to the planning of work functions, research project, implementation of the program and associated examinations.
• Good skills within communication and cooperation skills.

The applicant must also be enterprising and possess good interpersonal skills.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment
The position is full timed, limited to 5 years in duration, and employment ceases without notice at the end of the fifth year. Employment will be in accordance with The Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and Akademikerne (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
